Aboriginal Community Development: Meeting the Needs of Your Aboriginal Customers
Libraries across Alberta are connecting and consulting with Aboriginal communities to develop appropriate library services that meet the expressed needs of Aboriginal peoples. This half day pre-conference session will be an opportunity to learn about EPL’s Services for Aboriginal Peoples Task Force and to take part in a discussion and planning session to explore ways to connect with Aboriginal peoples in your community.
Presenters: Jody Crilly and Laura Morin
Jody Crilly received her MLIS from the U of A and currently manages the Penny McKee-Abbottsfield Branch of EPL. Prior to this she was Manager of the Wetaskiwin Public Library, where she focused on providing excellent programs and services for city and county residents. She has been a member of EPL’s Library Services to Aboriginal Peoples Team since May 2005 and was appointed Chair in April 2006.
Laura Morin obtained her B.Ed. and MLIS from the U of A and is currently EPL’s Aboriginal Services Librarian, which was the fi rst position of its kind in Alberta. She spent many years as a teacher-librarian in Drayton Valley and on the Onion Lake First Nation. Laura has a strong commitment to working together with Aboriginal communities to provide library service.
Cost: $30
Revitalize your community using Planning for Results! This practical and informative workshop will help you plan library services that mesh with your community’s needs. The Public Library Association’s newly revised Planning for Results process is a highly regarded program that guides library staff and library boards in planning to meet community needs. It has been identified by the Alberta Public Libraries Branch as an approach that can aid library boards in developing their Plan of Service, which is a requirement for library boards.
Due to the generous support of Public Libraries, Alberta Municipal Affairs and Housing, we are able to offer this preconference session at a very advantageous price. Library staff with an interest in planning and library trustees will benefit from this session.
The pre-conference session will be presented by a consultant from the Public Library Association.
Cost: $30
