B2 The Library as a Place of Spirit Much has been written about the library as a physical space. However, it is also a place of spirit and inspiration that reflects key values, beliefs and aspirations. This session will explore the notion of spirit, how it is derived and created from many different sources and how it comes together in a unique institution called the public library. Presenter: Gerry Meek

B3 Meeting your Users’ Expectations By Building a Nextgen Webscale for Libraries Meeting expectations is never easy, especially when expectations can change for each individual. Thanks to the Web, users commonly expect simple discovery and intuitive delivery. In addition to traditional searching, users want to socially collaborate and participate in their search experience. This can be achieved by employing social networking tools and by combining the power of the local library with libraries regionally and worldwide. Libraries need a scaled, compelling user environment that connects to a transparent mechanism for delivery of library resources. Examples will be drawn from OCLC’s Montana home delivery pilot, WorldCat.org and WorldCat Local services. Presenter: Mindy Pozenel

B4 Building Community Partnerships This session will provide an overview of the importance of community collaboration and community partnerships as an important tool for working effectively with other organizations and community members. The session will outline a partnership process and tips for building effective partnerships. Presenter: Anne Smith

B6 Lorne McRae Intellectual Freedom Lecture If intellectual freedom is one of the core values of librarianship, then development and promotion of that value in society should be part of our mandate. How successful have we been in fulfilling that responsibility and connecting that value to our profession and to our institutions? This session examines the “face” of intellectual freedom in school curricula and public/academic library materials, and includes recommendations on how we can repair what the speaker considers to be a broken connection between libraries and intellectual freedom. Presenter: Ann Curry

B7 Reaching Out from the Other Side of the Desk: A User’s Perspective on Evolving Library Services As service delivery models change, and as librarians increasingly reach out to their communities, some users reach back. Publishing models, research tools, and scholarly communication have all been revolutionized. As libraries adapt, researchers do as well. This session will provide a user’s perspective on some of these changes. Presenter: Mark Vajcner
