Planning for Results Pre-Conference

posted @ 4:44 pm under updates

The Library Association of Alberta and the Alberta Library Trustees Association are very excited to be offering an important pre-conference at the Alberta Library Conference in Jasper on April 24, 1 -4 pm.

The half day pre-conference is on the highly-regarded Public Library Association Planning for Results process. This process is being recommended by Public Library Services, Alberta Municipal Affairs, as an appropriate planning process for Alberta libraries and library boards to use to meet their planning requirements.

Planning for Results is based on identifying community vision and community needs, and developing Library Service Responses to link user needs with the library. We are lucky to have as a presenter Pat Taviss, who has worked as a library trustee, library director and vendor, and although now based in the US, began her library career in Grande Prairie.

Due to generous funding by the Alberta Government, we can offer this pre-conference session at a fraction of the usual cost.

The pre-conference costs $30.00 including GST
You can still register by April 4, 2008.

If you have already registered for ALC and wish to add the preconference to your registration, please contact Steven Leard at steven@marketwhys.ca Continue Reading »

You can add your name to the wait list by calling JPL at (780) 852-3301. With our new cancellation policy in place, some rooms will become available 45 days before the conference. Jasper Park Lodge staff will start calling people on the waiting list at that time.

Save-the-Date

posted @ 1:23 pm under updates

ALC 2008 will take place in Jasper, Alberta
Thursday, April 24 - Sunday, April 27, 2008

The theme for ALC 2008 is:
Reach Out: Step Away from the Desk

Libraries and Library Boards are changing traditional service delivery in many ways. We are reaching out to our communities, bringing the library to more people, of all ages and cultures, outside the library walls. People in the community are using their library online without ever coming to the Circulation Desk. Reference librarians are leaving the Reference Desk to bring information to students wherever they are, across campus or via social software. Library Boards are taking up the challenge of creating partnerships, and planning to meet the needs of the younger generation and the growing population of the elderly in innovative ways. Our theme this year celebrates these developments and aims to support library staff and trustees in their activities to expand and enhance library service.

Conference sessions, keynotes, pre-conferences, author talks, social events, and exhibits will be announced over the next few months.

August 15th, 2007 is the deadline for session proposal submissions.
