Come-on Down to Value Galore 2004
Silent Auction
Back by popular demand! With many thanks to all of you who generously donated items to last year’s event, we raised $3,369! Because of the success from last year, where everyone had fun and turned up in full force to bid, the 2004 Alberta Library Conference planning committee would like to invite you to participate in this year’s silent auction. The monies raised by this event will go towards ALC 2005 author talks and speaker forums.
You can help in more ways than one:
- Donate items for the auction. Remember, donations can be big or small & don’t have to cost a fortune to be appreciated. Last year’s donations included: pottery, gift certificates, paintings, needlework, gift baskets, dried flower arrangements, books, a weekend get-away for two, silver, wood carvings & much, much more. Please link to the Acquisition Form (MS Word Document) for Value Galore 2004 Silent Auction or call Connie at 708- 496-7276 for more information.
- Volunteer to work the auction. Just email (chargreaves@epl.ca) to express your interest.
- Stop by the auction on Thursday night to bid on the fabulous items donated and in many cases handcrafted by members of our library community.
Here how it works:
- Items will be on display in the Great Hall and at the Jasper Park Lodge, Thursday, April 29.
- The auction will occur between 7:30 – 10:00 p.m.
- The Library Towne Crier will announce rules & lead the evening’s proceedings.
- Tables will be closely supervised, with each item displayed beside a colour-coded bid sheet. Minimum bids & acceptable increments will be noted on each bid sheet. Once a bid sheet is signed, it is deemed binding.
- Closing times will be well posted & printed on each bid sheet. All auction items will be divided into two colour-coded sections corresponding to two separate closings. The first closing will take place at 9:30 P.M., the second & final closing will take place at 9:45 P.M. The last signature – which should be the highest valid bid on the sheet - will determine the winner.
- Once the auction closing has been announced, auction volunteers will sign each bid sheet and circle the winning bid. Winners will then take their bid sheet to “The Bank” and claim their prize after payment. See Rules for Value Galore 2004 Silent Auction for details.
