Denise Agosto Denise is assistant professor at the College of Library and Information Science and Technology at Drexel University. Her research interests include young people’s information seeking in digital environments, and Hispanic and multicultural issues in children’s and young adult literature and library services. She has published widely in both of these areas. (Sessions G10 and H8)
Marlene Asselin Marlene is a member of the Department of Language and Literacy Education at UBC where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy education and school librarianship. She is President Elect of CSLA and on the research committee of IASL. (Sessions C9, G7)
Judy Atkinson Judy Atkinson is a spirited facilitator of rhythm-based events and a part of a growing international movement of ‘DCFs’ or Drum Circle Facilitators. Judy has a Masters Degree in Adult Education focusing on workplace learning initiatives, and has trained with master drummers, drum circle facilitators and community builders in Hawaii, Pennsylvania and Canada. Bonnie Austen Bonnie is a Community Recreation Coordinator with the City of Edmonton and works with a wide array of not-for-profit organizations. With Diane Dunn, she has given workshops on volunteer recruitment, program development, effective organizations, meeting management, and change and transition for women. (Session F4)
Susan Beatty Currently Head, Information Commons, University of Calgary, Susan has spent most of her library career as a public services manager. One of her duties over the past year was to participate in the LibQUAL+2002 implementation committee at the U of C. Susan is an instructor in the Faculty of Continuing Education Management Certificate Program. (Session C1)
Cynthia Beuselinck Cynthia has worked with educational sites and webmasters since 1997 through the Inet-Toolbox Training and Technology Services, and previously as Internet Support Specialist with the Calgary Board of Education. She is co-author of K-12 Web Sites: Planning and Publishing Excellent School Web Sites (2001). (Session B7)
Jennifer Branch Jennifer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. She is the coordinator of the Teacher-Librarianship by Distance Learning program and does research in the areas of information literacy and information-seeking behaviours. (Sessions C8, G7)
Sandy Campbell Sandy is acting Collections Manager of the Science and Technology Library at the University of Alberta. She has an interest in all kinds of library services in cyberspace including e-books, e-journals and virtual reference. (Sessions B5, F6)
Sheila Carruthers Sheila Carruthers is one of Canada’s leaders in the world of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). With more than ten years’ experience successfully administering, managing and ultimately enhancing two of Canada’s biggest foundations, Chastell Foundation and the Canadian Pacific Charitable Foundation, Sheila has a wealth of knowledge and creativity. Pat Cavill Pat is presently the President of the Library Association of Alberta. She has more than 30 years experience as a public library consultant and senior manager in both urban and rural Saskatchewan and Alberta. Pat’s consulting practice focuses on strategic planning, customer service and marketing for libraries and advocacy training across Canada and the United States. (Session B10)
Gail de Vos Gail is a storyteller and author of six books on storytelling and folklore. She is an adjunct professor for the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta and teaches a course on comic books for the Teacher-Librarianship by Distance Learning Program. (Session H2)

Andrew (Rick) Everett Rick’s education and extensive background have been associated directly and indirectly with the mining and oil industry. He has spent the last 28 years at Syncrude Canada Ltd. where he has held senior leadership positions. Currently Rick has been seconded to Keyano College as a Project Manager working with a number of oil companies, contractors and unions developing a major safety initiative. (Session B6)
Cathy Faber As System Principal, Innovative Learning Services, Calgary Board of Education, Cathy leads a team of technology and learning specialists to support ICT learning outcomes, distributed learning options, home education, on-line learning, and connected communities of practice within the CBE. Cathy worked as a classroom teacher in Saskatchewan and Alberta for 22 years before connecting with the on-line initiative with CBE. (Session C10)
Kathy Farrell Kathy has worked as a teacher-librarian with Edmonton Public Schools for a number of years. She has also worked as a library consultant. Currently she is teaching at Grande Prairie Regional College and with the Peace Wapiti School District. Kathy is a former president of the Alberta Teachers’ Association Learning Resources Council. (Session G8)
Dean Frey Dean has been Director of Red Deer Public Library since 1990. Since then he has worked on secondment as Coordinator of the APLEN project and was the first Chair of The Alberta Library. He is Project Leader for the Central Alberta Smart Communities initiative, and Project Manager of the RedNeT fibre optic network partnership. (Session C4)
Merle Harris Merle is a storyteller who, because of visits to Alberta schools, has become a strong advocate for qualified teacher-librarians. (Session B10)

Pat Jobb Pat is an Associate Director responsible for Public Services at the Edmonton Public Library. As such she is responsible for the operations of EPL’s 16 branches, including the Stanley A. Milner Library. Over the years, she has participated in or led the design, construction or renovation of new library facilities. One of her projects has been the expansion, renovation, and redefinition/redevelopment of the services offered from the Stanley A. Milner Library, including development of the Centre for Reading and the Arts slated to open in early 2003. (Sessions B2, C7)
Jay Jordan Jay became the fourth president of OCLC Online Computer Library Center in 1998. From 1974 to 1998, he held management top posts with Information Handling Services, an international publisher of databases, including as President of IHS Engineering. He is a Standards Engineering Society Fellow, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Library Administration, and a member of the Council of Advisors for the School of Library and Information Studies, Florida State University. Denise Koufogiannakis Denise is Collections Manager at the John W. Scott Health Sciences Library. She has been a PDA user for the past two years, and is one of the project developers of the U of A Libraries’ “Services for PDA Users” initiative. She is interested in finding new ways to bring library content and resources to the University community. (Session H5)
Karen Labuik Karen is Assistant Director of Marigold Library System. She has presented Library Advocacy Now! training across the Prairie Provinces as well as other workshops on advocacy in marketing throughout the Pacific Northwest. Karen received LAA’s 2002 President’s Award. (Sessions F3, G3)
Margaret LaRiviere Margaret has been in the library business for 19 years and is currently Supervisor of Circulation Services, Learning Resources Centre at Grant MacEwan College. Prior to that, she was Assistant Manager, Sprucewood Branch, Edmonton Public Library and Reference Assistant, Information Services, EPL. (Session H7)
Anne Letain Anne has been a teacher-librarian in Alberta since 1985 at both ends of the province. Her particular interest is early literacy and she has given many workshops on how to get kids reading and keeping them reading. A strong advocate for school libraries, Anne has won a number of awards for her work; the most recent being the 2002 Canada Post Literacy Award for Educators. (Session H10)
Marie Logan Marie strives to realize her vision of equal access to information and technology for all Albertans. She has participated on 3 volunteer library boards, including her current position as past chair of Chinook Arch Regional Library Board and past chair of Horizon School Division. In addition, her volunteer efforts in agriculture and rural development have led to her induction into the 4-H Hall of Fame and being named Farm Woman of the Year. (Session F1)
Dianne Loveland Dianne is teacher-librarian and Curriculum Liaison, Chinook College, Calgary Board of Education. Under the direction of administration and Cathy Faber, Innovative Learning Services, Dianne is responsible for the management and development of the Learning Resources Centre collections and its programs including the LRC web site and the Virtual Library. Dianne has been in this position since 1998, and also has a diverse background in arts and culture, the non-profit sector and post-secondary libraries. (Session C10)
Jean Ludlum Jean has worked for the Calgary Public Library Services since 1986 in various positions including children’s librarian, assistant manager, branch manager, and since 2001 as manager of Youth Services. She has a MLS from the University of British Columbia. (Session F10)
Rowena Lunn Rowena is Director of Marigold Library System. She has presented Library Advocacy Now! workshops and other workshops throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. Rowena was awarded CAPL’s outstanding Public Library Service Award in 2000. (Sessions F3, G3)
Winston McConnell Twelve years consulting with volunteer, non-profit organizations on how to best prepare funding applications and now coordinating the Wild Rose Foundation’s Financial Support Unit, has provided Winston with valuable experience in the dynamics of the funder-application relationship and the intricacies of preparing and analyzing applications. Winston has conducted many community meetings and workshops on the granting and application process. (Session F2)
Gary Mar Gary was elected to his third term as Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary - Nose Creek on March 12, 2001, and was subsequently reappointed Minister of Health and Wellness. He is currently a member of the Agenda and Priorities Committee and the Standing Policy Committee on Health and Community Living. Mr. Mar has also served as Minister of Community Development, Minister of Education and Minister of Environment. (Session G11)

Milena Mineghetti Ms. Meneghetti is a Human Resources professional, public speaker, published author, volunteer, student, wife and mom of two. With over 15 years experience as an internal and external consultant in a wide range of sectors, she has a multi-dimensional view of organizational behaviour and the world of work. Well-known for her interactive and highly informative workshops, Ms. Meneghetti brings research, common sense and ethical awareness to her workshops. (Session H3)
Debbie Miller Debbie moved to Irricana with husband and children in 1991 and became an Irricana Library Board Trustee in 1992 and board chair in 1995. She has also served on the Marigold Library System Board since August 1998 and the governance committee since October 2001. Debbie enjoys reading, gardening, camping and spending time with her family. (Session F1)
Teddy Moline Teddy Moline has been in the education business for over 30 years, as a classroom teacher, a teacher-librarian, Alberta Education staff, a university experience in China, and district office staff. She holds a Masters in Education, School Libraries, has done presentations and workshops for teachers, administrators, and parents, and is currently on secondment from Elk Island Public Schools to Alberta Learning as an Education Manager. Judy Moore Judy Moore is the manager for the new Centre for Reading and the Arts, Edmonton Public Library. She’s been involved in several major projects involving new construction and retrofitting space, and was the recipient of the City of Edmonton’s Mayor’s Award for Accessible Architecture in 1997. (Session B2)
Juliet Nielsen Juliet Nielson is a recent graduate of the Masters of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta. She has expertise in digitization, database design, and indexing. She is currently a participant in the U of A Libraries Academic Internship Program. Juliet has particular interests in user-centred interface design. (Session F6)
Suzanne Nykoluk Suzanne is a public library trustee serving her seventh year on the Jasper Municipal Library Board, as chair for the past three years. She has also been a representative to the Yellowhead Regional Library Board for the past five years. (Session F1)
Dianne Oberg Dianne is a Professor in teacher-librarianship in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. Before coming to the University, Dianne worked as a classroom teacher and teacher-librarian in the public school system. Her research focuses on teacher-librarianship education and on the implementation and evaluation of school library programs. Dianne is the editor of an international journal, School Libraries Worldwide, and an active member of school library associations at local, national and international levels. She is currently Chair of the Department of Elementary Education at the U of A. (Sessions B9)
N. Pas Paskaran N. Pas Paskaran delivers talks on freeing our locked-in potential. He is a firm believer in these ideas and techniques for personal development. He assures that those who follow these ideas will definitely walk the path of success, prosperity, happiness, peace of mind and well-being. He publishes a free monthly newsletter titled, Say Yes to Life. He has produced audio albums on study skills to help students succeed. He also conducts seminars on study skills. (Sessions F5, G5)
Jack Patterson Jack is an experienced facilitator and performance analyst. He has developed and taught workshops on quality improvement, business process improvement, team building, and conducting effective meetings. He is currently instructing a course on business process innovation at the University of Calgary (Faculty of Continuing Education). (Session H4)
Sheryl Pelletier Sheryl has been the director of High Level Municipal Library since 1989. In that time, the library has doubled its space, its funding, and its circulation, as well as introducing new and innovative programs such as a Book Store Society. (Session C3)
Pam Ryan Pam is currently Research and Special Projects Librarian, University of Alberta. Her responsibilities include co-ordination of assessment activities such as LibQUAL+ and the U of A Libraries’ participation in ARL’s E-metrics (Measures for Electronic Resources) project. She is also one of the project developers of the U of A Libraries’ “Services for PDA Users” initiative. (Sessions C1, H5)
Michael Sambir Michael trained as a librarian and worked as a librarian for Edmonton Public Library. He currently works as a Business Analyst for Alberta Economic Development in the areas of tourism, small business and regional development. (Session G2)
Karen Sanders Karen has worked at Medicine Hat Public Library for 16 years and has been a shop steward for her full tenure. She has participated in a large number of negotiations, experiencing some very negative ones (including strike action), and appreciates negotiations where both parties are working towards the same goal. (Session C5)
Rachel Sarjeant-Jenkins In her eight years as a librarian, Rachel has worked in Canada and England. She moved to Medicine Hat Public Library three years ago to receive her initiation into contract negotiation and work within a strong union environment. Experience with personnel issues, attendance at the NEL 2000, and discussions with various union and management representatives helped her in effecting a positive labour-management outcomes. (Session C5)

Keith Seel Keith is a consultant working in the areas of strategic management, marketing, corporate social responsibility and ethics. He has been widely published through John Wiley and Sons, New York. Besides his ongoing work with Red Deer Public Library he has projects underway with corporations and nonprofit organizations, including being the Director of the Mount Royal College Institute for Nonprofit Studies. Linda Shantz-Keresztes Linda has been employed for 26 of her 28 teaching years with the Calgary Board of Education, as a classroom teacher, compensatory teacher, teacher-librarian, and district library specialist. Linda is presently a curriculum leader/teacher-librarian at Central Memorial High School, Web Awareness trainer, and member of the “Wired for Words” website team. Linda is past president of the Calgary Regional Learning Resources Council, President-Elect of the Alberta Learning Resources Council and Co-Chair of ALC 2003. (Session F10)
Wendy Sinclair-Sparvier Wendy is the Branch Head of the Albert Branch Library, an inner city branch of the Regina Public Library System. She chairs “Library Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal Peoples”, a provincial committee that works towards enhancing library services for indigenous peoples. She also participates on various boards and committees related to youth, Aboriginal health, community and educational issues. (Session B8)
Scott Stanley Scott is on secondment to the APLEN SuperNet Readiness project from the Red Deer Public Library where he has worked for several years as the head of technical services. He heads up a group of staff that have been working with libraries across Alberta to prepare for the opportunities SuperNet will bring. He has been active in several province-wide committees concerning SuperNet and public library involvement. (Session G6)
Linda Steen Linda has been a teacher-librarian for the Calgary Board of Education for over 25 years. She has loved books and reading for as long as she can remember. The best part of her job as a teacher/librarian at Hawkwood School is talking to teachers and students about books. She loves helping children find those “just right” books that will inspire them to become avid readers and lifelong learners. Linda is the key elementary teacher-librarian with the CBE “Wired for Words” partnership team. (Session H10)
Tom Stevens Tom has been a Library Trustee for over a decade. He is former Chair of the Red Deer and Calgary Public Library Boards. Tom is working with his daughter Jennifer Labache on the book Thunder from the South: Canada and the American Civil War, to be published in late 2003. (Session C4)
Judith Sykes Judith is currently Principal of Belfast Fine Arts/Technology Learning Center. She is both a conference/workshop presenter and organizer locally, provincially, and internationally. She co-chaired the CBE “Future of School Libraries Task Force” producing the document School Libraries Supporting Quality Learning and she co-chairs the Quality Learning 2001 Symposium. She has extensively published within the board, the province, and nationally including being editor of IMPACT, the professional journal of the Association of Teacher-Librarianship of Canada (ATLC). Larry Tiedemann Larry is currently the chair of the Tofield Municipal Library, a board member for the Northern Lights Library System, a member of the Northern Lights Library System Finance Committee and a councillor for the town of Tofield. (Session F1)
Joan Urschel Joan has been working in the public library field since graduating from the first MLS class at the University of Alberta in 1978. At the Strathcona County Library in Sherwood Park, she has become an experienced reference and collection development librarian. Although her focus is now on public relations and programming, she continues to coordinate the library’s magazine collection and online subscriptions. (Session B5)
Andrew Waller Andrew is the Serials Librarian at the University of Calgary Library, where he has worked since 1997. As Serials Librarian, Andrew has spent much time in the last few years working with and thinking about e-journals. A graduate of the School of Library, Archival, and Information Studies at UBC, he has also been Reference Librarian at Lloydminster Public Library. (Session B5)
Paul Whitney Paul is the Chief Librarian of the Burnaby Public Library. He is the Chair of the Copyright Forum which addresses digital copyright issues on behalf of its 13 member national library, education, archive, and museum associations. He is also a member of the Canadian Library Association Copyright Committee and the International Federation of Library Associations Copyright and Other Legal Matters Committee. (Session C6)
